At only 14 years old, Maddie Faye became certified in teaching kids, tweens, and teens yoga, mindfulness, and meditation; naming her one of the youngest certified yoga instructors in North America. Through the first couple of years of being certified, she taught classes at local libraries, schools, and events. She was on a mission to empower as many kids as she could, through teaching the benefits of yoga, mindfulness, and meditation, but to reach more kids she knew she had to change the way she taught her classes and go online.
That’s when OM Warrior Kids was born! A video adventure series for kids, ages 3 to 10 years old where they learn yoga poses, mindful breathing exercises, and ways to meditate, all through fun and entertaining animated story videos.
Though it was not easy, as any entrepreneur knows, there are ups and downs. Getting some funding from family, at 15, Maddie got a job as a social media manager and paid for nearly over half of the costs of the start-up on her own.
Working back and forth with lawyers, green screen studios, videographers, video editors, and ad managers, she learned all about what it takes to start your own business. She even learned how to build your own WordPress site and membership platform from scratch, so the app.omwarriorkids.com website and membership is all built by Maddie herself!
Maddie has now created a growing tribe of young OM Warriors, empowering them to be kind and confident leaders. She hopes to become a worldwide known option for kids healthy and active entertainment and screen time, soon bringing on other young yoga instructors, translating the OM Warrior Kids videos into other languages, and sharing the love to as many kids as possible.
Yoga is not just for adults! It can give children very important life skills that can help them succeed in the world. It helps manage anxiety with breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. Increases body awareness and mindfulness by going through a variety of yoga poses. It helps improve flexibility, which can reduce the chance of injury. Yoga can also reduce challenging behaviors by providing a physical outlet for kids to express themselves, as they work on clearing their minds and perfecting their poses.
I've learned that there is much more to it than simply leading a group through a series of asanas. I have the ability to relate yoga to my students and address their needs. My students respond to bandhas (energy locks), agni sara (essence of fire), and other subtle practices, and they love the sweet buzz at the end of a deep shavasana (final relaxation) or the challenge of steadying the mind. Some want to approach yoga as an athletic endeavor, but most are looking to overcome emotional and physical pain, find peace, and discover self-mastery.
